A product of luxury now turned in
to necessity! The mercury is on high rise and it’s just a matter of time before
we turn on our air conditioners or get a new one. It is that time of the year
where many of you are looking to buy a new AC or exchange your old one. Appliances
like Air Conditioner is something that we think on a longer run.
Choose the Air Conditioner which
is equipped with technology catering to your needs. You might be having certain
queries and doubts before buying an AC, here’s a checklist you should consider
before buying an AC this summer-
ACs vary with a lot of factors such as price, energy efficiency & cooling capacity. The introduction of healthcare benefits, energy efficiency and new technology, consumers are more aware of the necessities and have a variety of brands & products to choose from.
✔️Size of your room- Generally there are 4 types of AC based on the capacity- 0.5 ton, 1 ton, 1.5 ton or 2 ton. The capacity should always depend on the size of the room. If your room is small or around 100-150 square feet, opt for a 1 ton ac, it will suffice you need. For a bigger room or for covering a larger area, it is recommended to go with 1.5 ton to 2 ton.
✔️Go for the AC type based on room & requirements- Ideally there are 2 types of AC, split AC and window AC. Both are equally effective; the major difference is their pricing and features. Window AC units are affordable and comes with less features. On the other hand, split AC offers multiples features like sleep more, turbo cooling, inverter power consumption technology, etc and costs a little more. A split AC can be fitted in any room, but for a window AC, you need a proper window that matches the dimension of the AC.
✔️BEE rating or energy efficiency- ACs come with star rated energy efficiency ratings known as ERR standardized by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE). Before buying an AC, look for the energy rating label. They are rated based on stars. The more stars, the more is the savings on energy consumption further leading to savings on your electricity bill in the longer run. You might feel a 5-star rated is exceeding your budget, but think for the longer run, you will probably end up paying much more in your electricity bill for months. Think & choose wisely!
✔️Inverter efficiency- To enjoy a consistent cooling with energy efficiency, an inverter AC is worth your money spent. A little expensive than the regular ones, but with one third less power consumption than a normal one. The money spent evens out in approximately in two years of saved electricity bills. These days, brands are even coming up with dual inverter series as it helps in better cooling and precise energy control.
✔️Noise control- An important thing to consider while buying an AC is its noise. Each AC comes with a different level of noise operation in the product specifications. Ideally, the noise level should be around 50dB. An AC with a lot of noise can ruin your night’s sleep. Also, keep in mind that window ACs are relatively louder than split ACs.
✔️Condenser coils- Always go for copper coil condenser ACs. Copper coils are much more efficient and offer better cooling compared to aluminium coils. Another benefit is, they are easy to maintain and has a longer durability. Condensers are used to cool the air, copper ones are popular because of their fast cooling, low-cost maintenance, and longer lifespan. They have better heat exchange and anti-corrosive properties when compared to the aluminium coils.
✔️Installation- Always look for options with easy installation & convenient. The greater the distance between the blowing unit and the condenser, the more is the installation cost. The average cost can go up to ₹200 to 300 per square feet for additional installation of tubes & electrical wiring. It is advices to opt for 100% Copper Advantage ACs. Copper ACs are resistance to corrosion and hence have low chances of failure in terms of gas leakages. Second advantage of copper ACs is they are easy to clean during regular service. A simple spray of water on the outdoor unit can get rid of major impurities settled on the condenser coil. These impurities, if not cleaned, hamper the cooling efficiency of the ACs. On the other hand, condenser coil of non-copper ACs are prone of corrosion and hence, have half the life as compared copper condensers. They are also difficult to clean due to their design, which has a minute gap between fins. Hence, the impurities are not cleaned fully, resulting in failure and damage.
Another important factor to keep in mind is the dehumidification function. This helps in getting rid of excess moisture in air during the monsoon months. The other is the sleep mode function that saves on power bills by reducing the cooling every hour, this is useful in conditions where the outside temperature drops considerably in the middle of the night.
Some ACs comes with a
self-cleaning feature preventing the growth of harmful micro-organisms by
keeping away the moisture and keeps a clean and cool environment making sure
your AC lasts longer.
